When discussing the Teaching and Learning area of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, one must know what the description ideals of the Target Tech range is. This area views the target range when a teacher serves as a facilitator and a co-learner with the students. The students have access to all technologies when they want them and can use them to complete activities and assignments that have been integrated into all the core curriculum content areas. Also, when one views the Technology TEKS, he/she will find the Technology Application TEKS have all been met for that campus. At the high school level, all of the technology applications courses are offered and they teach at least four courses.
At Wake Village Elementary School, for the past three years the area for Teaching and Learning rated in the Advanced Tech range. Although this is true, there are some grade levels and specifically within the Special Education department where this area needs work. Breaking this area down even further, there seems to be a deficit when one looks at the patterns of classrooms use, content area connections and especially in the areas of student mastery of technology applications and online learning.
As the campus technology coach and the administration team begins to look at areas where improvement needs to be focused, it would be wise to look at those particulars with the teaching and learning area to focus goals and objectives. IT might be beneficial to examine some project-based learning in order to facilitate the knowledge of online learning and incorporating this kind of learning into curriculum area connections and practice to ensure students are working toward mastery of technology application TEKS.
